The game board consists of
- a control panel, with four (or five) choice icons; and six (or eight) color selector; and an action button.
- a decoding panel, with rows containing four (or five) colored code peg icons; and a corresponding number of hint icons.

The game generates a pattern of four (or five) code peg from a palette of six (or eight) colors for the player to guess.
The number of codes and colors depends on the game difficulty.
Duplicates colors are allowed.
The player makes a guess by clicking on the choice icon (?) or action button to populate it with the current selected color.
Once all the choice icons are populated, the player can press the action button again to submit the guess.
The game then provides a feedback from zero to four (or five) hint icons on the decoding panel.
A black hint icon is placed for each code peg that is correct in both color and position.
A grey hint icon is placed for each code peg that is correct in color, but wrong in position.
Each hint icon accounts for exactly one code peg.
